Men’s Swimming Starts Season with 186-62 Home Win Over W&J

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team opened its 2023-24 schedule with a strong win at home on Friday night, topping non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College 186-62 in the Adler Natatorium.

Penn State Altoona posted 11 first-place finishes during the meet, with eight different swimmers recording at least one individual win. The Lions also won both of the night's relay events.

Penn State Altoona started the meet by achieving first place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, when the team of Eugene Heyman (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs), Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township), Hunter McMullen (Colver, PA/Central Cambria), and Adam Marawan (Dubai, UAE/GEMS Dubai American Academy) combined for a time of 1:40.69.

Caden Traggiai (Sarver, PA/Knoch) followed by winning the meet's first individual swim, placing first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:22.62. One event later, Heyman notched an individual win by prevailing in the 50 Yard Backstroke, clocking in at 26.55.

Nguyen won the next event, the 50 Yard Breaststroke, after finishing in 28.38. Nguyen posted another first-place finish later in the meet, when he triumphed in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:05.45.

McMullen earned first in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 54.91, and Marawan finished atop the standings in the next event, the 50 Yard Freestyle, with a time of 21.87.

Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) came in first place in the 100 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 50.20. Andrew Miller (Easton, PA/Easton) nabbed a win in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:27.03, and Rocco Solimeo (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) rounded out the Lions' individual winners by taking first in the 50 Yard Butterfly after finishing in 25.66.

Penn State Altoona ended the meet by winning the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, when Marawan, Solimeo, Heyman, and Dotts came together to record a total time of 1:29.36.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming has its next event on Saturday, October 28, when the Lions host non-conference foe Saint Vincent College for a home dual meet starting at 1 p.m.
