Men’s Swimming Defeats Elizabethtown, Juniata in Regular Season Finale

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team ended its 2023-24 regular season schedule on a strong note, sweeping a tri-meet hosted by Elizabethtown College at the Alumni Pool on Saturday.

The Lions beat host Elizabethtown 143-118 and also finished with a commanding 200-15 victory over Juniata. Penn State Altoona finishes its regular season on a five-meet win streak, and the Lions end the schedule with an 8-1 overall record in dual meets.

Penn State Altoona's total of eight dual-meet wins is the most ever for the Lions in a single season in program history.

The Lions racked up 10 first-place finishes in Saturday's meet, spearheaded by three individual wins from Caden Traggiai (Sarver, PA/Knoch) and two from Adam Marawan (Dubai, UAE/GEMS Dubai American Academy).

Traggiai's first win of the day came in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, in which he clocked in at 10:21.81. He later won the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:01.07, and he clinched the trifecta with a first-place finish in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:07.39.

Marawan notched his first victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 1:49.94. Later, he took first place in the 100 Yard Freestyle after ending with a time of 49.22.

Eugene Heyman (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) triumphed in the 100 Yard Backstroke, winning first place with a time of 56.97. Lincoln Johnson (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) seized first in the 50 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 22.96.

Jack Zisa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) won the 200 Yard Backstroke, hitting the pad at 2:06.47. Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) prevailed in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:20.21.

The Lions put the finishing touches on the meet by winning the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, as the foursome of Heyman, Marawan, Rocco Solimeo (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt), and Johnson combined for a time of 1:31.89 to secure first place.

The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team will now prepare for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, held Wednesday, February 14 through Saturday, February 17 at Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, N.Y.
