Men’s Swimming Holds Third Through Three Days at AMCCs

WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team wrapped up day three of this week's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Championships on Friday night, when the Lions remained in third place by the conclusion of the evening's finals session at Webster Aquatic Center.

Through three days, Penn State Altoona's men's team has totaled 391.5 points. The Lions continue to hold third place out of five AMCC teams, ranking ahead of Pitt-Bradford (226 points) and Wells College (two points). Penn State Behrend is first among the AMCC teams with 677.5 points, while Alfred State College is in second place with 632 points.

Hartwick College is in first place overall in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 meet with 706 points.

Penn State Altoona opened Friday night's session with three swimmers having qualified for finals in the 400 Yard IM. Caden Traggiai (Sarver, PA/Knoch) made the 'A' cut and finished in fourth place in the AMCC and sixth overall, totaling a time of 4:14.83. Traggiai's time set a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming record in the 400 Yard IM, breaking his own record time of 4:25.60, which he set during the Malone University Invitational on November 16-18, 2023.

In the 'B' final of the 400 Yard IM, Luke Schnoor (Middletown, PA/Lower Dauphin) was eighth in the AMCC after finishing in 4:37.35, and Allan Samoilovich (Leonia, NJ/Paramus Catholic) took 10th in the conference with a time of 4:43.06.

Next was the 100 Yard Butterfly, in which two different Lion swimmers competed. Hunter McMullen (Colver, PA/Central Cambria) clocked in at 53.07 to place third in the AMCC and sixth overall while swimming in the 'A' final, and Lincoln Johnson (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) took part in the 'B' final, where he registered a time of 53.98 to secure sixth in the conference.

Penn State Altoona had its best finish of the night in the 200 Yard Freestyle, where Adam Marawan (Dubai, UAE/GEMS Dubai American Academy) earned a time of 1:44.34 in the 'A' final to take first place in the AMCC and second overall. Rocco Solimeo (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) and Jack Zisa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) each swam in the 'B' final, with Solimeo posting a time of 1:50.65 to place eighth in the AMCC and Zisa finishing in 1:53.91 to take 11th in the conference.

Two Lions competed in the 'B' final for the next event, the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) nabbed sixth place in the AMCC with a time of 1:01.54, and Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) was eighth in the conference after finishing in 1:01.82.

In the next event, the 100 Yard Backstroke, Penn State Altoona had one swimmer make the cut for the 'A' final and another qualify for the 'B.' Eugene Heyman (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) compiled a time of 54.70 to secure third place in the AMCC and sixth overall while taking part in the 'A' final, and Nicolas Louis (Queens, NY/Rabun Gap Naccochee) was seventh in the AMCC with a time of 59.36.

The night concluded with the 400 Yard Medley Relay, in which Penn State Altoona had two teams competing. In the 'A' final group, the foursome of Heyman, Nguyen, McMullen, and Marawan came together for a time of 3:35.07 to place third in the AMCC and fifth overall. In the 'B' final, Zisa, Adam McGlynn (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria), Johnson, and Traggiai recorded a combined time of 3:45.14 to come in seventh in the conference.

The fourth and final day of the AMCC Championships is tomorrow, Saturday, February 17. The day's round of preliminaries is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., and the last finals session of the week will be at 5 p.m. Saturday's finals will be comprised of the 1,650 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard Butterfly, and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay events.
