Men’s Swimming Scores Program-Record 566.5 Points in Third-Place AMCC Finish

WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team clinched its best-ever team scoring performance in program history during the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, while the Lions closed out this week's conference postseason meet at Webster Aquatic Center by finishing in third place out of five teams.

By the conclusion of the meet's last finals session on Saturday night, the Penn State Altoona men had racked up 566.5 points, setting a new team record for the most points scored during the AMCC Championships. That point total bested the previous team record by a wide margin, topping the previous mark of 461.5 points, which was established during last season's AMCC Championships.

Penn State Altoona placed third in the field of five AMCC teams, ranking ahead of Pitt-Bradford (326 points) and Wells College (five points). The Lions also set three more team records on Saturday, raising their total to nine new records established during this week's conference meet.

Penn State Behrend won the AMCC title while placing second overall in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 meet with a total of 977.5 points, and Alfred State College took second place in the AMCC with 898 points. Hartwick College won the combined meet, totaling 988 points.

Caden Traggiai (Sarver, PA/Knoch) got Saturday's finals started on a strong note, when he finished as the AMCC runner-up and third place overall in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle after clocking in at 16:32.18. That time also set a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming record, breaking the previous time of 16:37.45, which was set by former Lion Isaac Swanson on February 19, 2022, during that season's conference championships.

Later in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle final, Allan Samoilovich (Leonia, NJ/Paramus Catholic) recorded a time of 19:05.28 to place ninth in the AMCC.

Two more Lion swimmers competed in finals for the next event, the 200 Yard Backstroke. In the 'A' final for that swim, Eugene Heyman (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) registered a time of 2:01.74 to come in fifth place in the AMCC and seventh overall. In the 'B' final, Jack Zisa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) was eighth in the conference with a time of 2:04.61.

In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Penn State Altoona had five swimmers qualify to compete in the finals. In the 'A' final, Adam Marawan (Dubai, UAE/GEMS Dubai American Academy) won first place in the AMCC and second overall by clocking in at 46.46. That time also established a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming record, edging the previous record time of 46.78 that Marawan set on February 18, 2023, during last season's AMCC Championships.

Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) also found success in the 100 Yard Freestyle 'A' final, finishing in 48.34 to clinch fourth place in the AMCC and sixth place overall.

Lincoln Johnson (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown), Rocco Solimeo (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt), and Adam McGlynn (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) all qualified for the 'B' final in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Johnson led the way with the second-fastest time in the 'B' group, finishing in 49.21 to place ninth in the AMCC. Solimeo earned a time of 50.31 to come in 11th in the AMCC, and McGlynn finished in 50.83 to place 13th in the conference.

Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) competed in the 'B' final of the next event, the 200 Yard Breaststroke, and had the top time among the 'B' group, clocking in at 2:14.87 to take fifth place in the AMCC. After that, Hunter McMullen (Colver, PA/Central Cambria) qualified for the 'A' final in the 200 Yard Butterfly, during which he compiled a time of 2:06.82 to secure sixth place in the AMCC.

Penn State Altoona finished Saturday's finals with another strong showing. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay 'A' final, Dotts, Traggiai, Solimeo, and Marawan combined for a time of 3:11.94 to place second in the AMCC and fourth overall. That time also earned a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming record for the four athletes, supplanting the previous record time of 3:13.89, which was set by former Lions Swanson, Kieran McKee, Taylor Bohn, and Tanner Yaw on February 22, 2020, during that year's AMCC Championships.

In the 'B' final of the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Nicolas Louis (Queens, NY/Rabun Gap Naccochee), Zisa, McMullen, and Johnson posted a total time of 3:21.79 to take seventh in the AMCC.
