Men’s Tennis Drops Fall Season Opener

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis started the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule on Friday afternoon at the Adler Tennis Courts, losing 6-3 to non-conference opponent Marietta College.

Things got off to a good start for the Lions (0-1), as they secured two victories in doubles play to grab the early 2-1 lead. In the No. 1 doubles match, Jake Colledge (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Jonathan D'Arcy (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) prevailed 8-5. In the No. 2 doubles slot, Logan Kyle (Reedsville, PA/Mifflin County)/Andrew Ung (Upper Chichester, PA/Chichester) won 9-8.

But Marietta (1-2) came back to overtake its deficit during singles play, where it won five out of six matches to leave with a three-point win. Penn State Altoona's lone point in singles came in the No. 1 match, where Colledge earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory.

Penn State Altoona men's tennis has one more match this fall, as the Lions will host Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, October 6 at 1:00 p.m. After that, the team will break until picking its schedule back up in early February.
