Men’s Tennis Loses 5-3 in Season Opener

WINCHESTER, Va. –  Penn State Altoona men's tennis started its 2019 schedule opener with a 5-3 loss to non-conference opponent Shenandoah University at Winchester Country Club on Saturday night.

The Lions (0-3) took one out of three points in doubles, then proceeded to win two out of the five singles matches played before the match was called after the decision was determined.

In No. 2 doubles, the duo of Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley)/Andrew Ung (Upper Chichester, PA/Chichester) won 8-2.

In singles play, Penn State Altoona got a pair of points when Logan Kyle (Reedsville, PA/Mifflin County) won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in No. 3 singles and Ung triumphed 6-4, 6-4 in No. 5 singles.

Shenandoah (1-0) won the match by taking two out of three in doubles, as well as three out of the five doubles matches played.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's tennis hosts its first home match of the season, when the Lions will face non-conference opponent Geneva College on Saturday, February 23 at 4:00 p.m. at Gorilla House Gym.
