Lions Tennis Topped 6-3 by Bethany

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis took a 6-3 loss on Sunday afternoon at the hands of non-conference opponent Bethany College at the Gorilla House Gym.

Bethany (1-2) jumped out to a commanding lead early in the match, winning the three doubles matches by scores of 8-1, 8-4, and 8-6.

Penn State Altoona (0-6) held its own in singles play, however. The Lions split the six singles matches, as three Penn State Altoona freshman players each picked up their first collegiate wins.

In No. 1 singles, Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) earned a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) victory for his first college win. Jaydan Jacobs (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/Charlotte Amalie) pulled out a 6-1, 3-6, 10-7 win in the No. 5 singles match for his first victory as a Lion. Kirk Eichenlaub (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) prevailed 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles spot to record his first collegiate win.

Penn State Altoona men's tennis will now head into an 18-day layoff, with the Lions' next match coming on Friday, March 15 when the team will host non-conference opponent Waynesburg University at 4:00 p.m. The next day, Saturday, March 16, Penn State Altoona holds another home non-conference match when it takes on Frostburg State University at 1:00 p.m.

The locations for both of those matches are to-be-determined. Should the weather produce favorable conditions those days, the matches would be held outdoors at the Adler Tennis Courts on campus.
