W&J Tops Lions Tennis 8-1

ALTOONA, Pa. – In its fifth consecutive home match of the schedule, the Penn State Altoona men's tennis team was defeated 8-1 on Saturday by non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College at The Summit Tennis & Athletic Club.

W&J (5-1) secured an early lead in the match, sweeping doubles play with 8-1, 8-5, and 8-4 victories. The Presidents then won five out of six singles matches to earn the seven-point triumph.

Penn State Altoona (0-8) picked up a point in the No. 6 singles match, where Kirk Eichenlaub (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) prevailed 6-0, 6-1 to record his second singles win of the season. Eichenlaub is tied for the team lead in singles wins.

The Lions get back into Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play tomorrow, Sunday, March 24, when they will host Penn State Behrend at 1:00 p.m. That match is tentatively scheduled to be played outdoors on campus, at Penn State Altoona's Adler Tennis Courts. However, in the event that colder temperatures force the match to be moved indoors, it will be played at the Gorilla House Gym in Altoona.
