Lions Tennis Blanks Lycoming 8-0

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team earned their second win on the season, as they took down a non-conference opponent in Lycoming College on Wednesday afternoon at The Summit Tennis and Athletic Club in an 8-0 decision.

Starting off the day, the Lions earned victories in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Jonathan D'Arcy (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West)/Andrew Ung (Upper Chichester, PA/Chichester) won 8-6, and Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley)/Jaydan Jacobs (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/Charlotte Amalie) earned an 8-0 victory. A No. 3 doubles match was not played.

In singles action, Gillespie, D'Arcy, Logan Kyle (Reedsville, PA/Mifflin County), and Jacobs all picked up wins. Gillespie won his No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-1, and D'Arcy followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win in the No. 2 match. Kyle prevailed 6-2, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, and Jacobs took the No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-1. Penn State Altoona won via forfeit in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches.

With the win, the Penn State Altoona men's tennis team now improves to 2-9 overall on the year. The Lions will try to carry the momentum into their next match against their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Mount Aloysius College. It will be another home match for the Lions, as it will be Senior Day on Friday, April 5, at 4:30 p.m.
