Lions Tennis Edged 6-3 by Mount Aloysius

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis was upended by Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Mount Aloysius College on Friday, when the Lions suffered a 6-3 loss to the Mounties at The Summit Tennis and Athletic Club.

Penn State Altoona (2-10, 1-3 AMCC) earned a point in No. 3 doubles, where the duo of Andrew Ung (Upper Chichester, PA/Chichester)/Tyler Smolko (Loretto, PA/Penn Cambria) earned an 8-3 victory. But Mount Aloysius (7-3, 2-2 AMCC) grinded out a pair of closely-contested wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, prevailing 8-6 and 8-5 to come away with two out of three possible points.

But Mount Aloysius won four out of six singles matches to clinch the win.

Ung and Smolko provided points for Penn State Altoona during singles. In No. 5 singles, Ung won 6-3, 6-2. In the No. 6 match, Smolko picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Lions men's tennis travels for its next match, which is tomorrow, Saturday, April 6, when the team will hit the road to play AMCC opponent Medaille College at 2:00 p.m.
