Men’s Tennis Secures First Win

BRADFORD, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis recorded its first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions topped Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford 8-1 at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Penn State Altoona (1-2, 1-2 AMCC) opened the match by sweeping doubles play. In the No. 1 match, Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley)/Ben Maus (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) prevailed 8-5. In the No. 2 doubles spot, Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber)/Joshua Wefers (Colchester, VT/Colchester) won 8-4. In No. 3 doubles, Jaydan Jacobs (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/Charlotte Amalie)/Dominic Lisanti (Mechanicville, MD/Chopticon) earned an 8-4 win.

In singles, the Lions won five out of six to cruise to the seven-point match win. In No. 1 singles, Gillespie battled to a 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 decision over his opponent. Maus won 6-2, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, and Jacobs followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 4 spot. Brinker posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 5 singles, and Andrew Ung (Upper Chichester, PA/Chichester) rounded out the lineup with a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles.

Penn State Altoona will wrap up the fall portion of its 2019-20 schedule tomorrow, Sunday, October 6, when the Lions host AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg for a match beginning at 12:00 p.m.
