Men’s Tennis Drops Spring Season Opener 8-1 to Juniata

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis resumed its 2019-20 schedule on Thursday evening at The Summit Tennis and Athletic Club, opening the spring portion of its schedule with an 8-1 loss to non-conference opponent Juniata College.

Juniata (5-2) swept doubles play to grab three early points, including pulling out a tightly-contested match in the No. 2 doubles slot by an 8-7 (7-4) decision against Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley)/Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber).

The Eagles went on to win five out of six singles matches to earn the seven-point win in the overall match.

Jaydan Jacobs (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/Charlotte Amalie) picked up his team-leading third singles win of the year for Penn State Altoona (1-4) in the No. 4 singles match, defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-4.

Kirk Eichenlaub (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) also battled in the No. 6 singles match for Penn State Altoona, but he suffered a tough 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-5), 11-9 loss in a hard-fought competition.

Penn State Altoona men's tennis hits the road for its next match of the spring season, traveling to the Peters Township Tennis Center to face non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday, February 29 at 5:00 p.m.
