Men’s Tennis Eliminated from AMCC Tournament With 5-2 Loss

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team saw its 2021 season come to an end on Saturday, when the Lions suffered 5-2 defeat at the hands of Mount Aloysius College in the semifinal round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament at Westwood Racquet Club.

Mount Aloysius (7-0) won two out of three doubles matches, earning an 8-2 win in the No. 1 match and an 8-1 victory in the No. 2 match. Penn State Altoona (2-4) picked up a point in the No. 3 spot, where Dominic Lisanti (Mechanicsville, MD/Chopticon)/Kirk Eichenlaub (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) earned their second doubles win together this season with an 8-4 decision over their opponents.

But Mount Aloysius took the overall match win by prevailing in the one, two, and three singles matches. The postseason match was played to a decision, thus ending the match once the Mounties reached the decisive fifth point. The No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches went unfinished.

Jake Irwin (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) provided a win for the Lions in the No. 4 singles match, where he triumphed 6-4, 6-0 for his third victory of the season.

With the win, Mount Aloysius advances to tomorrow's AMCC Championship match, while Penn State Altoona is eliminated from the tournament.
