Men’s Tennis Sweeps Pitt-Bradford for First Win

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team recorded its first win of the 2021-22 season on Sunday, when the Lions blew past Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford 9-0 at the Adler Tennis Courts.

Penn State Altoona (1-3, 1-0 AMCC) lost only one single game during the match, whitewashing Pitt-Bradford (0-6, 0-4 AMCC) the rest of the way.

In doubles, Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park)/Tommy Davis (Memphis, TN/Collierville) picked up their first win together in the No. 1 match with an 8-0 victory. Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona)/Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber) won 8-0 in the No. 2 match, and Kirk Eichenlaub (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg)/Jake Irwin (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) got their first win together in doubles with an 8-0 sweep in the No. 3 match.

Toth prevailed 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match, and Davis got his first win as a Lion in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 match. Hess prevailed 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match, and Brinker improved to a perfect 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 4 singles match. Irwin and Eichenlaub followed with 6-0, 6-0 wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, respectively.

Now, Penn State Altoona men's tennis will break for the rest of the semester. The Lions are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, March 13, when they will travel to face AMCC opponent Medaille College at 1:00 p.m.
