Juniata Tops Men’s Tennis 7-2

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team suffered a 7-2 loss on Thursday evening to non-conference opponent Juniata College at the Raffensperger Tennis Courts.

Juniata (10-4) swept doubles play by scores of 8-4, 8-2, and 8-4 to secure an early 3-0 advantage in the match. The Eagles proceeded to win four out of six in singles, taking the No. 1, 4, 5, and 6 matches to finish the day with a five-point victory.

Penn State Altoona (4-7) salvaged a pair of points in singles. Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) picked up his fourth overall singles win this season, earning a 6-3, 6-3 victory in his first appearance this season in the No. 2 slot. Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) prevailed 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles match to record his team-leading ninth singles win of the season.

Next, Penn State Altoona will prepare for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships next weekend. The Lions, with a 4-1 mark in the AMCC, nabbed the number one seed in the conference tournament and will face four seed Pitt-Greensburg in a semifinal round match on Saturday, April 23 at 3:30 p.m. at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie.
