ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis freshman Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) had a record-setting day for the Lions on Friday evening, as his team put the finishing touches on its 2021-22 schedule by hosting Mount Aloysius College for a doubleheader at the Adler Tennis Courts.

Hess entered the night's matches with 10 overall singles wins this season, which trailed only former Lion Kyle Yerty and his program single season record total of 11 singles wins from the 2009 season. However, Hess won both of his singles matches on Friday to achieve 12 overall wins this year, setting a new Penn State Altoona men's tennis single season record for singles wins.

Penn State Altoona (6-9) lost 6-3 to Mount Aloysius (2-13) in the first match, but the Lions bounced back to prevail 5-3 in the second match to end their season with a victory.

Match One: Mount Aloysius 6, Penn State Altoona 3

Penn State Altoona secured a 2-1 lead after doubles play, but the Mounties rallied during singles to come back and post the win.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Hess/Tommy Davis (Memphis, TN/Collierville) teamed up for the first time to record an 8-2 victory. Kirk Eichenlaub (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg)/Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber) also made their first appearance as a duo in doubles play, and the tandem pulled out an 8-7 (7-5) win in the No. 2 match. Mount Aloysius picked up a point by forfeit in the No. 3 doubles spot.

But Mount Aloysius won five out of six possible points in singles play, winning the No. 1, 3, and 4 matches while also receiving forfeit points in the No. 5 and 6 matches. Hess provided the Lions' lone points in singles play, winning 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot for his first win of the season in that position.

Match Two: Penn State Altoona 5, Mount Aloysius 3

The second match was played to decision, with Penn State Altoona again securing two points in doubles play but also following through with a trio of wins in singles to salvage a doubleheader split.

In No. 1 doubles, Hess/Davis won 8-3 for their second win together, while Eichenlaub/Brinker also notched their second win with an 8-0 blanking of their opponents in the No. 2 doubles match. Mount Aloysius again recorded a forfeit win in No. 3 doubles.

In singles, the Mounties got forfeit wins from the No. 5 and 6 matches, but Penn State Altoona won three of the other matches to get to five points as a team. Hess earned his single season record-setting victory in the No. 2 singles match, where he prevailed 6-1, 6-1. Brinker cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 3 match for his sixth overall singles victory of the season, and Eichenlaub also sailed to a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 4 spot for his ninth overall singles win of the season. The No. 1 singles match was left unfinished as soon as Penn State Altoona achieved five points.
