Men’s Tennis Defeats Geneva for Seventh Straight Win

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team kept its winning streak alive on Tuesday afternoon, when the Lions hit the road to beat non-conference opponent Geneva College 7-2 at Brady's Run Tennis Courts.

Penn State Altoona (7-3) notched its seventh consecutive match victory by winning two out of three in doubles and five out of six in singles to earn a five-point decision over Geneva (6-2).

The pair of Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona)/Andrew Chronister (York, PA/Dallastown) improved their record to 10-0 together this season by earning an 8-6 win in the No. 1 doubles match. Kadyn Carey (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Nick Beard (Manns Choice, PA/Bedford) pulled out a tiebreak win in the No. 2 spot, prevailing 8-7 (7-2) for their seventh victory of the season.

Hess posted a victory in a closely contested No. 1 singles match, coming out on top 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 for his eighth singles win of the season. Chronister won 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot to stay undefeated on the year, boosting his singles record to 10-0. Beard played to a 6-2, 6-3 triumph in the No. 3 match for his seventh win of the season. Emmett Hibbs (Richfield, PA/East Juniata) and Jackson Newell (Leechburg, PA/Kiski) each notched their sixth win of the season, with Hibbs prevailing 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 match and Newell pulling out a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 victory in a back-and-forth No. 6 match.

Penn State Altoona returns to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play for its next match, as the Lions will host nearby conference rival Mount Aloysius College this Thursday, April 11, for a match indoors at The Summit Tennis and Athletic Club starting at 3:30 p.m.
