BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Penn State Altoona suffered a loss to the first place team in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference on Wednesday night, when the Lions lost 3-0 to Geneva College at the Metheny Fieldhouse.

Geneva (19-7, 10-2 AMCC) swept the match 25-21, 25-16, and 25-19. Penn State Altoona (11-14, 3-8 AMCC) struggled to stay away from mistakes, committing 30 attack errors over three sets.

Ben Beaver (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) totaled a team-best 16 assists to go along with five digs and three kills. Danny Dry (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) added 10 assists and three digs.

Brian Sheddy (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) led Penn State Altoona in kills with eight, and he was second on the team in digs with eight while recording one solo block. Dan Downs (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) added seven kills and a block assist, and Jon Ramsey (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) also totaled seven kills while picking up four digs and a block assist.

Daniel Jordan (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) and Frank Perehinec (Altoona, PA/Altoona) had two kills and a block assist each, and Mirko Pandini (Greensburg, PA/Greater Latrobe) had two kills and a solo block. Perehinec also contributed five digs.

Tyler Chan (Framingham, MA/Framingham) posted a team-high nine digs. Kyle Whiteman (Northampton, PA/Northampton) chipped in two digs.

Penn State Altoona and Geneva were tied 15-15 midway through the first set, before the home team pulled away. The Golden Tornadoes prompted a Lions timeout after Dan Townsend's kill gave Geneva a 21-17 lead, and later, two kills by Spencer York finished the first set off.

The Lions worked out to a 6-5 lead in the second set, helped by two kills from Ramsey and another from Downs. But Geneva reeled off a 12-4 run, jumping ahead 17-10 and forcing a Penn State Altoona timeout. Later, the Golden Tornadoes scored the final three consecutive points of the set with kills from Peter Barbato and Townsend, as well as a Lions attack error.

Geneva opened the third set by grabbed a 14-4 lead. Penn State Altoona scored five straight points late in the set to narrow its deficit to 21-18, but with the score at 22-19, Geneva used three straight kills from Quinn McCracken, Anthony Baronio, and Barbato to wrap up the match.

Lions volleyball wraps up its 2019 regular season schedule with a trio of AMCC matches in Springfield, Ohio this weekend at Wittenberg University. On Saturday, April 6, Penn State Altoona will play D'Youville College at 1:00 p.m. and Medaille College at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, April 7, the Lions will finish things off with Wittenberg at 12:00 p.m.
