Men’s Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Behrend

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team came away with one win and one loss after Saturday afternoon's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tri-match at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center.

Penn State Altoona (9-7, 6-2 AMCC) was swept 3-0 by Penn State Behrend to start the day, but the Lions bounced back and fought for a 3-2 victory over Hiram College in their second and final match of the day.

Match One: Penn State Behrend 3, Penn State Altoona 0

Behrend (11-5, 5-1 AMCC) swept Penn State Altoona in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-19.

Trey Sadler (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin) and Philip Silva (Brazil/Richard Montgomery) each led the Lions with nine total points and eight kills. Sadler added eight digs and one service ace, while Silva recorded six digs and two block assists.

Jared Bodisch (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) totaled eight points on seven kills and an ace, and he also recorded eight digs while chipping in a pair of assists. Connor Ebersole (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) and Jared Kish (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Darby) both finished with five kills and one block assist.

Connor Baker (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) tied for the match-high in assists, tallying 28 assists while tying for the team-high in digs with 11. He also contributed three kills.

Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber) tied for the team lead in digs with 11.

Match Two: Penn State Altoona 3, Hiram 2

The Lions finished Saturday's action by pulling out a big win over Hiram (11-5, 5-1 AMCC) in a back-and-forth match. The Terriers started the match with a 25-17 win before Penn State Altoona bounced back to take the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-23. Hiram stayed alive with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set, but the Lions prevailed 15-12 in the fifth set to win the match.

Silva racked up a team-high 22.5 points, finishing with 15 kills, three solo blocks, three block assists, and three service aces while chipping in five digs. Kish added 13.5 points on 12 kills and three block assists, and Sadler had 10.5 points on eight kills, two aces, and a block assist to go along with eight digs.

Bodisch tallied nine points on seven kills, one ace, and one solo block, and he also notched eight digs. Ebersole contributed five kills and three block assists.

Baker led all players in the match in assists with 41, and he also recorded eight digs, three kills, and a pair of block assists.

Brinker tied for the match-high in digs again, tallying 10. Jeremy Winter (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) recorded seven digs.

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball returns to action on Wednesday, March 16, traveling to Latrobe to face AMCC opponent Saint Vincent College at 7:00 p.m.
