BRADFORD, Pa. – Penn State Altoona softball added a win and a loss to its record on Saturday afternoon, when the Lady Lions split their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Pitt-Bradford at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Penn State Altoona (16-11-1, 6-4 AMCC) prevailed 7-2 in game one before getting edged 1-0 in game two.

In game one, Emily Strouse (Beech Creek, PA/Central Mountain) upped her season record to 9-2 with a complete game win. In seven innings in the circle, Strouse allowed only one earned run on eight hits while issuing no walks and striking out one.

Haley Giedroc (Howard, PA/Bald Eagle) finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, three runs batted in, and two runs scored. Additionally, she stole one base to increase her stolen base total to 18 this season, setting a new Penn State Altoona softball program record for the most steals in a season.

Kaitlyn Harmon (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Abby Showers (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, Kelsey Bristol (Troy, PA/Troy) also batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base, and Meghan Marasti (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) hit 2-for-4 with a run scored. Jessica Willits (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Penn State Altoona scored a pair in the top of the first inning, grabbing the early 2-0 lead on Giedroc's two-run single to center.

Pitt-Bradford (11-13, 3-5 AMCC) tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning when Kendra Colegrove's double down the left field line drove in two runs for the Lady Panthers.

But the Lady Lions answered in the next half inning, plating two runs to regain the lead. Willits' two RBI double to right-center in the top of the third gave Penn State Altoona a 4-2 advantage.

Harmon's RBI single in the top of the fifth made it 5-2 for Penn State Altoona, and the Lady Lions extended their lead to 7-2 in the top of the seventh on Bristol's RBI single up the middle and Giedroc's RBI double to right.

In game two, neither team was able to muster much offense in a contest dominated by pitching and defense.

Sidney Shultz (Runville, PA/Bald Eagle) took the tough luck loss in a complete game effort. In six innings, the right-hander allowed just two hits and no earned runs while walking five and striking out two.

Bristol, Giedroc, Marasti, and Willits had each of Penn State Altoona's four hits. Bristol kept her team-leading hitting streak alive, extending it to 10 games. Willits has also hit safely in her last nine consecutive games.

Pitt-Bradford broke a scoreless tie in the bottom half of the third inning when Samantha Hribal led off with a walk and later came around to score on an error. That run was all that the home team would need to secure a victory in game two.

Lady Lions softball gets back at it tomorrow, Sunday, April 22 when the team hosts AMCC opponent D'Youville College for a doubleheader at Stewart Athletic Field. Game one is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
