Saturday Softball Doubleheader Postponed

Saturday Softball Doubleheader Postponed

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona softball team's home doubleheader against non-conference opponent Geneva College, scheduled to happen tomorrow, Saturday, March 23, has been postponed due to weather and field conditions.

The games were to be the Lady Lions' first home contests of the season, but a combination of expected poor weather and subpar field conditions forced the doubleheader to be postponed. Saturday's forecast calls for real feel temperatures bordering on the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's acceptable temperature rule, which states that softball and baseball games cannot be played when the real feel is 29 degrees or below. Additionally, high winds are expected on Saturday afternoon, with gusts approaching 40 miles per hour. The Stewart Athletic Field softball surface also took on a significant amount of moisture on Friday, when the field sustained steady rain and snow throughout the day.

A makeup date is possible for the doubleheader, but it has not yet been determined. Check back to the Penn State Altoona Athletics website or social media accounts for any further updates.

With the postponement, Penn State Altoona softball's next games will be Wednesday, March 27, when the Lady Lions will start their AMCC schedule against conference foe Pitt-Greensburg at 3:00 p.m. at Stewart Athletic Field.
