BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona softball team continued to click on all cylinders in Saturday's doubleheader at Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Medaille College, coming away with a pair of victories at the Buffalo Color Park.

Penn State Altoona (11-8, 5-1 AMCC) swept Medaille (18-10, 7-3 AMCC), which entered the day atop the AMCC standings, with wins of 8-2 and 10-2. On the day, the Lions totaled 18 runs on 21 hits, allowed just three earned runs, and committed only one error.

Game One: Penn State Altoona 8, Medaille 2

Penn State Altoona put together a complete performance to deal Medaille its second AMCC loss of the season. Four different Lion hitters finished with a multi-hit game.

Cameryn Feathers (Martinsburg, PA/Central) went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and a run scored. Alyssa Fisher (Lock Haven, PA/Central Mountain) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI, and one walk, Casey Reese (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) was 2-for-4, and Kristen Hewitt (Coalport, PA/Glendale) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

In the circle, Reese pitched a complete game to secure her fifth win of the season. The right-hander went seven innings and held Medaille to just two runs on seven hits and a walk, and she tied her season-high for strikeouts with six.

Medaille scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second on a Sidney Cooper RBI single, but Penn State Altoona jumped ahead in the top of the third on a two-run single to center by Feathers.

The Lions expanded their lead with a four-run top of the fifth. Feathers drove in her third run of the day with an RBI base hit through the left side, and Olivia Smith (Martinsburg, PA/Central) scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1. Two batters later, Hewitt and Gianna Hoppel (Lewistown, PA/Mifflin County) contributed back-to-back RBI hits to increase Penn State Altoona's advantage to 6-1.

Medaille closed the gap to four in the bottom of the sixth, when Cooper's RBI single down the right field line narrowed the Penn State Altoona lead to 6-2.

But Penn State Altoona padded its lead by getting two more runs across in the top of the seventh. Hewitt scored on a wild pitch to make it a five-run game, and Fisher's sacrifice fly to center allowed Hoppel to come home from third to make it 8-2.

Game Two: Penn State Altoona 10, Medaille 2 (Final/5 innings)

For the second doubleheader in a row, Penn State Altoona registered a five-inning, eight-run rule win. The Lions jumped on Medaille early, establishing a 10-0 lead through the first two-and-a-half frames, and held the Mavericks to just two runs on three hits for the game.

Feathers continued her strong day at the plate by going 2-for-4 with a grand slam, five RBI, and a run scored. Smith was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Brooke Colledge (Everett, PA/Everett) had two RBI, Fisher finished with three runs scored, and Hoppel had two runs scored.

Fisher started in the pitching circle and tossed a complete game for her sixth win of the season. Over five innings, she allowed only one earned run on three hits and two walks to go along with a pair of strikeouts.

The Lions made it 2-0 in the top of the first, when Feathers' RBI single to left-center and Hewitt's sac fly to center helped the visiting team work its way in front. Penn State Altoona increased its lead to 6-0 in the top of the second, when Feathers blasted a grand slam to give the Lions a six-run lead. The home run was Feathers' second of the season, and it was also her first collegiate grand slam.

The Lions scored four more runs in the third to make it 10-0. Colledge's base hit to left-center drove in two runs, and Smith's two-bagger to left-center plated two more to give Penn State Altoona a double-digit advantage on the scoreboard.

Medaille picked up one run in the bottom of the third, when Audra Marley scored on a fielder's choice to put the Mavericks on the board. The home team added another run in the fourth on Marley's RBI single.

But Penn State Altoona held on to its eight-run advantage through five innings, ending the game early courtesy of the run rule.

Penn State Altoona softball is scheduled to return to action on Monday, April 18, traveling to Pittsburgh to face AMCC opponent La Roche University in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
