Women's Basketball Honors Former Player With Community Service

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Members of the Penn State Altoona women's basketball team honored the life of Allison Edwards, a former player who passed away three years ago, by taking part in a community service project on Sunday, April 8.

Coaches and players from the Lady Lions squad donated supplies as part of a larger fundraiser to benefit the Mending Hearts Animal Rescue on Sunday. The fundraiser aims to raise money and donations to support the Mending Hearts Animal Rescue, a non-profit organization based in Hollidaysburg, Pa. that takes in lost or unwanted cats and dogs and finds the best possible homes for those pets.

Edwards was an avid animal lover, an an initiative called "Mending Alli's Heart" was started to make monetary and supply donations to the Mending Hearts Animal Rescue in Edwards' honor. For the past several years, the initiative has joined together Edwards' family and friends -- including the Penn State Altoona women's basketball family -- to make donations to the animal rescue.
