Women’s Basketball Stumbles at Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – In its final road game of the 2018-19 regular season, the Penn State Altoona women's basketball team was downed 88-55 at Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday evening in the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Penn State Altoona (12-11, 10-7 AMCC) struggled from the field, shooting just 29.0% (18-for-62) overall.

Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) posted her team-high 11th double-double of the season, scoring 22 points to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds. She also led her team in assists with four, as well as in steals with two.

Paige Burk (Claysburg, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) added 14 points and a game-high three blocks, and Emily Lehman (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) scored nine points off the bench.

Pitt-Bradford (10-12, 9-8 AMCC) got a game-high 24 points from Jennifer Isenberg. Shirleah Ragin and Shaelyn Snipes added 14 points apiece, Latifah Cain scored 11 points, and Etreece Adams recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Panthers shot 50.7% as a team.

Penn State Altoona dug itself into a big hole early, going down 21-3 by the 2:27 mark of the first quarter. The Lady Lions trailed 25-10 by the end of the opening period.

Penn State Altoona won the second quarter by a 20-13 margin. Burk's three-pointer midway through the period cut Pitt-Bradford's lead to 10, and a pair of Cannistraci free throws made it an eight-point game, 27-19, by the 6:06 mark. Cannistraci's jumper with 44 seconds left in the half and Jessica Stevens' (Altoona, PA/Altoona) foul shot just before the buzzer cut the home team's advantage to 38-30 by halftime.

But Pitt-Bradford put up 30 points in the third quarter, then 20 more in the fourth quarter to outscore Penn State Altoona 50-25 in the second half and pull away in a big way.

Penn State Altoona women's basketball closes out its regular season on Saturday, February 16 with a home game against AMCC opponent La Roche College at 2:00 p.m.
