Women’s Bowling in Seventh After Day One of SFU Invite

ALTOONA, Pa. – After Friday's opening day of the three-day Saint Francis University Red Flash Invitational at Holiday Bowl, the Penn State Altoona women's bowling team sat in seventh place out of eight teams.

Friday's competition consisted of five five-game baker matches, which were decided by total pinfall. The day's overall standings are also based on pinfall.

Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mount Aloysius College was in first place after day one, dropping 4,441 pins and posting a 3-2 record. Mount Saint Mary's University was the second place team with 4,413 pins and a 4-1 mark on the day. Host school St. Francis was third with 4,345 pins and a 4-1 record.

Penn State Altoona was in seventh place after its five baker matches, posting a total pinfall of 3,414 and going 0-5. The Lady Lions placed ahead of fellow AMCC team Penn State Behrend, which held down eighth place after dropping 3,347 pins and going 0-5.

The Lady Lions started Friday's action against St. Francis, which handed Penn State Altoona an 834-630 defeat. Next, Felician University edged the Lady Lions 771-702. Penn State Altoona had its best pinfall showing of the day in its third match, which it lost 916-730 to Kutztown University. In its last two matches of the day, the women's bowling team fell 778-644 to Long Island University-Post and 928-708 to Mount St. Mary's.

Penn State Altoona women's bowling resumes competition in the St. Francis Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m. Saturday will consist of matches played in the traditional format.
