Women’s Bowling Drops Season-Opening Matches

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's bowling started its 2019-20 season on Sunday, when nearby Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mount Aloysius College hosted the Lady Lions for a pair of matches at the F.A. Gerhart Lanes.

In the first match, a traditional team format match, Penn State Altoona lost 893-602. In the second match, a baker format match based on total pinfall, Mount Aloysius prevailed again by a score of 849-492.

Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, PA/State College) led the Lady Lions in the traditional match, dropping a team-best 156 pins in her collegiate bowling debut. Allyson Givler (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) finished with a score of 130, the second-best total on her team in the traditional match.

Alyssa Bender (Altoona, PA/Altoona) dropped 109 pins, Lucia Perez (Cochabamba, Bolivia/CCS) scored 105, and Sierra Snigier (Seaford, DE/Seaford) finished with 102 to round out Penn State Altoona's lineup in the traditional match.

Those five bowlers also comprised Penn State Altoona's lineup in the baker match, combining to drop 492 pins over the course of five games. The Lady Lions lost the baker series by scores of 187-85, 153-90, 164-111, 155-108, and 190-98.

Penn State Altoona women's bowling returns to the lanes this upcoming Thursday, October 24, when the Lady Lions will hold their home opener. Penn State Altoona hosts AMCC opponent Saint Vincent College that evening at the Bavarian Aid Society's F.A. Gerhart Lanes starting at 6:00 p.m.
