Women’s Bowling Goes 1-4 in Day Two of Red Flash Invite

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's bowling team added one win and four losses to its record on Saturday in day two of the Saint Francis University Red Flash Invitational at Holiday Bowl.

After the opening day's format consisted of traditional team matches, Saturday's format shifted to five-game baker matches. Through the first two days of competition, Penn State Altoona ended Saturday's round in 10th place with a 1-9 head-to-head record and a total pinfall of 6,304. The Lions dropped 3,266 pins during the day two baker matches, improving upon Friday's team score of 3,038.

Division I Duquesne University remained atop the standings after day two, holding a 10-0 record and a two-day combined pinfall of 9,666. Division II Walsh University held down second place with 8,859 pins after going 6-4, and host Division I school St. Francis was third with 8,824 pins and an 8-2 record.

Penn State Altoona started its Saturday by facing an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent, taking on Pitt-Greensburg in its first five-game baker match of the round. The Lions fell 669-622 to the Bobcats.

Next up, Penn State Altoona faced Division I Wagner College, losing 773-614. The Lions faced another Division I opponent for their next match, when Penn State Altoona took on Valparaiso University. Penn State Altoona recorded its best team score of the day in a match, but ultimately lost 921-712 to Valparaiso.

The Lions were rematched with AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg in their fourth match of the day, and Penn State Altoona pulled out its first victory of the weekend and third of the season by handing the Bobcats a 672-625 defeat.

Penn State Altoona wrapped up the round with an 848-646 loss to St. Francis.

The Lions will finish this weekend's SFU Invitational tomorrow, Sunday, January 29, by competing in best-of-seven baker matches. The competition is scheduled to get underway by 9:00 a.m.
