Women’s Bowling Finishes 10th at Red Flash Invitational

ALTOONA, Pa. – After the third and final day of the Saint Francis University Red Flash Invitational on Sunday at Holiday Bowl, the Penn State Altoona women's bowling team took 10th place on the team leaderboard.

Division I Duquesne University won the invitational, Division II Walsh University came in second place, and Division I Valparaiso University placed third.

Sunday's format featured three best-of-seven baker matches in a championship bracket.

Penn State Altoona found itself matched up with Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg in its first match of the day. The Lions won the first two games of the match by scores of 145-120 and 111-93 before Pitt-Greensburg got on the board with a 142-108 victory in the third game. Penn State Altoona bounced back with their best game score of the day in game four, beating the Bobcats 153-107. Pitt-Greensburg won the fifth game 155-97, but the Lions clinched a 4-2 win in the match by topping the Bobcats 139-126 in the sixth game.

Penn State Altoona advanced to face another AMCC opponent, Pitt-Bradford, in its second match of the bracket. The Lions rolled well in game one, earning a 147-123 victory against the Panthers. But Pitt-Bradford reeled off four straight victories by scores of 113-109, 158-136, 164-127, and 155-133 to hand Penn State Altoona a 4-1 loss.

The Lions' last match of the day was a rematch against Pitt-Greensburg to decide ninth and 10th place in the final standings. The Bobcats took the early lead with a 125-105 win in the first game, then narrowly edged Penn State Altoona 142-141 in game two. The Lions got a win under their belts with a 134-118 triumph in the third game, but Pitt-Greensburg clinched a 4-1 match win by taking the next two games by scores of 111-105 and 166-113.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's bowling starts AMCC play this upcoming weekend, traveling to Westmoreland County to compete in the first of two regular season conference round robins. The round robin will be hosted by Pitt-Greensburg at Hillview Lanes on Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5. Saturday's round is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m., and Sunday's action will get underway at 9:00 a.m.
