Women’s Bowling Goes 3-2 in First Day of AMCC Round Robin

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's bowling team opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play on Saturday, competing in the first full day of this weekend's AMCC Round Robin, hosted by Pitt-Greensburg at Hillview Lanes.

The Lions got off to a strong start to conference play, posting three wins in five matches and dropping 3,510 pins as a team. Saint Vincent College ranked first out of 11 total AMCC teams through Saturday's matches, totaling 5,191 pins with a 5-1 head-to-head record.

"I am very proud of everyone on this team," said Penn State Altoona head coach Elizabeth Rhodes. "They bowled together and kept a positive attitude throughout all the matches today."

Saturday's format consisted of traditional team matches.

By the end of the round, Kennedie Lauver (New Berlin, PA/Mifflinburg) led Penn State Altoona and ranked 16th out of 70 bowlers in scoring average, dropping 173.4 pins per game after five games. She also rolled the Lions' high score on the day, shooting 201 in the team's first match against Pitt-Greensburg. Chloe Mazza (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) ranked 19th on the individual leaderboard in average with a 165.0 mark through five games, including rolling a pair of 188s.

Isabelle Forcey (Clearfield, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) totaled 501 pins in four games for a 125.25 average, and Breanna Yarnall (Bedford, PA/Bedford) put down 489 pins in four games, averaging 122.25 per game.

Maddy Sosko (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) dropped 390 pins in three games, averaging 130.0 per game, and Kaitlyn Estright (Norristown, PA/Archbishop Carroll) played in two games, totaling 226 pins to average 113.0 per game. Angela Bunk (Long Beach Island, NJ/Southern Regional) and Brooke Yarnall (Bedford, PA/Bedford) each bowled one game, with Bunk scoring 123 and Yarnall shooting 89.

In its first match of the day, Penn State Altoona defeated Pitt-Greensburg 709-617. Lauver led the way with her 201, and Mazza rolled a 163.

The Lions suffered back-to-back losses in their second and third matches of the day, falling 814-640 to Penn State Behrend and 809-715 to New Jersey City University. Lauver had a team-best 165 in Penn State Altoona's loss to Behrend, while Mazza had a 188 in the loss to New Jersey City.

The Lions got back on track in their next match, posting their best team score of the day in a 772-694 victory over La Roche University. Mazza replicated her 188 for her team's high score in the game, and Sosko posted her best score of the day with 160.

Penn State Altoona closed out the day by edging Mount Aloysius College 674-671, as the Lions scooped up their third conference win. Lauver bowled 164 to lead the Lions in the game.

Penn State Altoona wraps up the first AMCC Round Robin weekend tomorrow, Sunday, February 5. The day's matches are scheduled to begin by 9:00 a.m.
