Women’s Bowling Takes Fifth at SVC Tournament

LATROBE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's bowling team returned to non-conference action on Saturday, when the Lions competed in the Br. Pat Lacey Memorial Tournament, hosted by Saint Vincent College at Lincoln Lanes.

Saturday's tournament consisted of traditional team format matches. Penn State Altoona posted a 2-3 head-to-head record on the day and dropped 3,752 pins as a team to finish in fifth place out of seven teams. Host St. Vincent won the tournament, going 4-0 and posting a total pinfall of 4,532, while Daemen University took second with a 3-1 record and 4,683 pins.

Chloe Mazza (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) led Penn State Altoona in total pinfall and average, rolling all five games and dropping 829 pins for an average of 165.8 per game. Out of 39 individual bowlers who competed on the day, Mazza was seventh in total pins. Breanna Yarnall (Bedford, PA/Bedford) ranked 13th on the individual leaderboard in total pins, putting down 806 and averaging 161.2 per game while bowling all five games for the Lions.

Kennedie Lauver (New Berlin, PA/Mifflinburg) was 18th overall in pins, bowling five games and dropping 768 pins for a 153.6 per game average. Kaitlyn Estright (Norristown, PA/Archbishop Carroll) bowled three games and ranked 28th overall in pins, totaling 470 pins and averaging 156.67 per game. Lauver and Estright both tied for Penn State Altoona's high score on the day, as each bowler shot 203 in the Lions' fourth match.

Brooke Yarnall (Bedford, PA/Bedford) bowled three games for the Lions and totaled 387 pins, averaging 129.0 per game. Isabelle Forcey (Clearfield, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) also rolled three games, averaging 127.33 per game for a total of 382 pins. Maddy Sosko (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) shot 110 in her lone game.

In its first matchup of the day, Penn State Altoona faced Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend, and the Lions suffered an 809-722 loss. Mazza led the way for Penn State Altoona with a 176, while Breanna Yarnall bowled 151.

The Lions took another loss in their next match, falling 1021-715 to Daemen. Yarnall shot a team-high 168, and Mazza followed with 154.

Penn State Altoona took its third loss of the day against host St. Vincent, losing 917-687. Lauver and Yarnall tied for the team-high score in the match, with each bowler rolling 160.

The Lions exploded for their best traditional team score of the season in their next match, when Penn State Altoona took down AMCC foe Pitt-Greensburg 876-711. Estright and Lauver each shot 203, and Mazza rolled a 173.

Penn State Altoona found itself matchup up with Pitt-Greensburg again in its fifth and final competition of the day, and the Lions capitalized by posting a 752-648 victory. Mazza shot 174 to lead the way, with Esright bowling 166 and Yarnall scoring 165.

Penn State Altoona returns to AMCC play for its next event, when the Lions will compete in the second and final regular season round robin of the conference schedule next Saturday, February 18 and Sunday, February 19. That round robin will be hosted by Medaille College at Classic Lanes in Kenmore, N.Y., with Saturday's matches expected to get underway at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday's action scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. The format of the second AMCC round robin will be baker.
