Women’s Bowling Opens Season at Bobcat Classic

MONROEVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's bowling team got its 2023-24 schedule underway on Saturday, competing in the first of the two-day Bobcat Baker Classic, hosted by Pitt-Greensburg at Lokay Lanes.

Penn State Altoona came away with one win and four losses, as the Lions competed in five-game baker matches decided by total pinfall.

Penn State Altoona started the day with a match against host school and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Pitt-Greensburg. The Bobcats held an advantage in pins during each of the match's five games, ultimately dealing the Lions a 677-584 loss.

Penn State Altoona took on non-conference opponent Alvernia University in the day's second match, and while the Lions scored better, the team suffered an 838-654 loss.

The Lions got in the win column in their third match of the day, when they went up against AMCC opponent Mount Aloysius College. Penn State Altoona had pinfall advantages of 169-125, 138-120, 185-147, and 182-141 over the Mounties in the first four games. Mount Aloysius held a 20-pin edge in the fifth game, but Penn State Altoona still finished with a comfortable 778-657 victory.

The Lions faced AMCC foe Saint Vincent College in their fourth match. Penn State Altoona posted a narrow 134-132 advantage in pins in the second game of the match, but the Bearcats led in each of the other four games to hand the Lions a 723-604 loss.

Penn State Altoona wrapped up the day with a 704-624 loss to AMCC opponent New Jersey City University. The Lions' best game of the match was in the fourth, when the team finished with a 148-109 scoring lead.

Penn State Altoona women's bowling finishes its opening weekend tomorrow, Sunday, November 5, with the second and final day of the Bobcat Baker Classic. The second round's first match is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
