Women’s Bowling Places Seventh at St. Vincent Tournament

LATROBE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's bowling team hit the lanes for the third weekend in a row on Saturday, when the Lions competed in the annual Br. Pat Lacey Memorial Tournament, hosted by Saint Vincent College at Lincoln Lanes.

Penn State Altoona finished in seventh place among a field of eight teams, going 1-4 in head-to-head matches while compiling a team pinfall of 3,817. Playing traditional format matches, the Lions posted a win over Baldwin Wallace University while also taking losses to Penn State Behrend, St. Vincent, Pitt-Greensburg, and Baldwin Wallace.

Host St. Vincent won the tournament, posting a 5-0 record and dropping 4,449 pins. Daemen University was the runner-up, putting down 4,349 pins and going 2-3 in wins and losses. Pitt-Greensburg placed third with 4,188 pins and a 4-1 record.

Chloe Mazza (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) was Penn State Altoona's top bowler on the day. On the individual leaderboard, Mazza ranked 11th out of 47 bowlers with 866 pins in five games, averaging 173.2 per game. She also rolled the Lions' high score, shooting 211 in her team's second match of the day.

Kennedie Lauver (New Berlin, PA/Mifflinburg) was 17th individually with a total score of 802 in five games, averaging 160.4 per game. Kaitlyn Search (Allentown, NJ/New Egypt) was 22nd overall, dropping 774 pins across five games for an average of 154.8.

Isabelle Forcey (Clearfield, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) rolled five games and ranked 25th individually with 727 pins, recording a 145.4 per game average. Breanna Yarnall (Bedford, PA/Bedford) competed in three games and put down 375 pins, averaging 125.0 per game.

Brooke Yarnall (Bedford, PA/Bedford) and Janine Maxwell (North Chicago, IL/North Chicago) bowled one game apiece, with Yarnall scoring 139 and Maxwell shooting 134.

Penn State Altoona opened the tournament against Penn State Behrend, with Altoona losing 850-791. Lauver had the Lions' top score of the match with a 185, and Search followed behind with a 172.

The Lions bounced back with their best score of the day in their next match, defeating Baldwin Wallace 844-731 for Penn State Altoona's lone victory of the tournament. Mazza's 211 keyed the Lions' win, while Lauver bowled a 180 and Forcey scored a 171.

In its third match, Penn State Altoona was handed a 924-764 loss by St. Vincent. Lauver and Forcey had the Lions' top two scores of the match, shooting 161 and 160, respectively.

Penn State Altoona suffered another loss in its next match, falling 848-688 to Pitt-Greensburg. Search had a team-high 159 in the match, while Mazza bowled a 158.

The Lions were matched up once again with Baldwin Wallace to wrap up Saturday's action, and Penn State Altoona lost 843-730. Mazza's 180 led the team, while Search scored a 143.

Penn State Altoona women's bowling will return to action in two weeks, when the Lions will compete in the annual Unicorn Invitational on Saturday, February 24. This year's edition of the invitational will be hosted by La Roche University at Perry Park Lanes, with the day's matches scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m.
