Pupillo Wins AMCC Women’s Championship

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Altoona sophomore golfer Katie Pupillo (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) finished in first place to win Monday's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Women's Invitational/Penn State Behrend Invitational at Lawrence Park Golf Club.

Pupillo shot 94 in Monday's round, tying her collegiate career-low score to place first and earn the AMCC women's individual championship. It marks just the fifth time in Penn State Altoona golf history that one of the program's women's golfers has won the AMCC title, and it is the first time that has happened since 2008.

"I'm really excited for Katie on accomplishing this feat in her final college event," said Penn State Altoona head coach Tom Koehle. "What a way to go out!"

Pupillo relied on consistency to navigate into first place, edging Mount Aloysius College's Courtney Link by four strokes to come in first. Penn State Behrend's Marissa Lynch and Tori Miller placed third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 104 and 108.

"Katie has put in a lot of time at practice and has been very consistent on the course," said Koehle. "She avoided big numbers today, dropped a nice birdie on the par 5 third hole, and outlasted some established and talented ladies from AMCC schools."

Pupillo joins former Penn State Altoona golfers Leslie Pavetto (2005), Jenna Rothermel (2006), and Ashley Piper (2007, 2008) as the only other Lady Lions to win the AMCC.
