Women's Soccer Falls 3-1 at Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer opened its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday at Pitt-Bradford, and the Lady Lions lost 3-1 at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Shoshana Mahoney (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season for Penn State Altoona (2-6, 0-1 AMCC) in the loss, and Jenna Mickel (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) recorded her team-high third assist of the year. Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) made eight saves for the Lady Lions.

Pitt-Bradford (5-4, 1-0 AMCC) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, jumping ahead 1-0 at 4:38 on Kaitlyn Williams' unassisted goal. The Lady Panthers doubled their lead shortly before halftime when Meghan Stuck's long, looping shot from 30 yards out found the back of the net at 37:47.

Pitt-Bradford made it 3-0 at 66:24 on Abby Celesky's goal.

Penn State Altoona cut into the home team's lead at 75:25 when Mickel set up Mahoney for a goal to bring the Lady Lions to within two scores, 3-1.

But time ran out on Penn State Altoona's comeback hopes, as the Lady Lions were handed their first conference loss of the fall.

Pitt-Bradford led 15-11 in shots, 11-6 in shots on goal, and 5-3 in corner kicks.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer continues AMCC play on Tuesday, September 26, when the Lady Lions will host La Roche College for an 8:15 p.m. matchup at Spring Run Stadium.
