Lady Lions Fend Off La Roche 1-0

ALTOONA, Pa. - A first half goal and strong goaltending were all that the Penn State Altoona women's soccer team needed on Tuesday night, as it picked up its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the season 1-0 against La Roche College at Spring Run Stadium.

Gabby Stauffer (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic) scored her first collegiate goal for the Lady Lions (3-6, 1-1 AMCC). Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) made 11 saves in goal, recording the win and her second career shutout.

Staffuer found the back of the net at 15:00, taking a pass from Shoshana Mahoney (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman) in the right side of the box and floating a shot into the top left corner of the goal from 15 yards to give Penn State Altoona the 1-0 lead.

Emershaw and the Lady Lions withstood several strong scoring chances from La Roche (2-6-1, 0-2 AMCC) throughout the game, nursing their one-goal lead to the end.

The Lady Redhawks led 19-12 in total shots and 11-7 in shots on goal. La Roche also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Mahoney and Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) each finished the game with two shots on goal and four total shots attempted, while Stauffer had two shots on goal and three total shots attempted.
