Lady Lions Downed 5-0 by W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer suffered a 5-0 loss in Thursday night's non-conference game against Washington & Jefferson College at Alexandre Stadium.

Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) started at goalkeeper for Penn State Altoona (3-7) and made three saves in the first half. Emily Strouse (Beech Creek, PA/Central Mountain) played the second half and recorded five saves.

Washington & Jefferson (5-3-1) came out strong in the first half, scoring three goals in the first 13:45 of the game. At 7:56, Jordan Toohey deflected Josie Madden's corner kick into the net to give the Presidents a 1-0 lead. At 10:25, Ashton Grimm took a pass across the box and shot the ball past the keeper into the center of the goal to make it 2-0. Washington & Jefferson upped its lead to 3-0 at 13:45 on Madden's goal on a shot from 18 yards.

Sam Fields increased the home team's lead to 4-0 before halftime, when her shot found room inside the right post for a goal at 36:29.

Washington & Jefferson made it 5-0 at 59:10 on Tatiana Ruzzini's goal on a shot just inside the left post.

The Presidents led 25-6 in shots, including holding a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal. The home squad also led 13-1 in corner kicks.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer returns to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play this Saturday, September 30, when they travel to Hamburg, N.Y. to take on Hilbert College for a 3:15 p.m. game.
