Women's Soccer Loses to Penn State Behrend

ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer fell 11-1 to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon at Spring Run Stadium.

Shoshana Mahoney (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman) scored her team-best 12th goal of the season for Penn State Altoona (4-9, 2-3 AMCC). Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) made five saves between the pipes while playing the first half.

Behrend (9-4, 4-0 AMCC) made it 1-0 at 28:06, when Lexie Frank tucked a shot just inside the right goal post from 15 yards out. The visitors upped their lead to 2-0 at 32:58 when Nicole Evans sent a shot from the top of the box into the top right corner of the goal.

Mahoney cut the Behrend lead in half at 38:17. Kaitlyn Shon (Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha Schools) set up Mahoney with a long ball into open space. When the Behrend goalkeeper came out of the box to cut off Mahoney's path, the senior forward dribbled around the keeper and sent a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 2-1.

But Behrend wasted little time answering Penn State Altoona's goal. Evans netted her second score of the game at 38:47 when the ball deflected to her right in front of the goal, and she fired a shot into the open net. The visitors made it 4-1 at 40:09 when Ashlyn Whipple floated a shot from the top left corner of the box into the right side of the goal.

Behrend continued to expand its lead midway through the second half. Jordan Oberlander scored goals at 58:59 and 60:16, and Amanda Donohue followed with scores of her own at 63:46 and 66:09. Goals by Cassidy Ulanowicz, Kayla Williams, and Angela Baranowski rounded out the scoring for the visitors.

Behrend led Penn State Altoona in shots attempted (29-10), shots on goal (16-4), and corner kicks (6-2).

After a week off, Lady Lions soccer will return to action on Saturday, October 14 when it hosts AMCC opponent Medaille College at 3:15 p.m. at Spring Run Stadium.
