Lady Lions Post 4-0 Win Over Medaille

ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer had a dominant 4-0 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Medaille College on Saturday afternoon at Spring Run Stadium.

Shoshana Mahoney (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman) scored three goals and added one assist for the Lady Lions (5-9, 3-3 AMCC), while Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) added one goal. Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) made two saves to pick up the win at goalkeeper.

Mahoney, who leads her team with a career-high 15 goals this season. also finished with 13 total shots attempted, setting a new Penn State Altoona women's soccer single game record for most shots.

Mahoney put Penn State Altoona up 1-0 at 11:34 when she fired a shot past the keeper into the right side of the goal. Irwin scored her third goal of the season at 21:20, taking a pass from Mahoney and finding the back of the net on a shot from 10 yards out on the left side of the box.

Mahoney increased the Lady Lions' lead to 3-0 at 36:39. Irwin's shot on goal was saved and deflected to Mahoney, who placed the ball into the goal. Mahoney clinched the hat trick at 65:57 when she collected her own rebound and scored to put the home team ahead 4-0.

Penn State Altoona held advantages over Medaille (0-12, 0-7 AMCC) in total shots attempted (38-3), shots on goal (21-2), and corner kicks (3-2).

Lady Lions soccer returns to action next Wednesday, October 18 at 4:15 p.m. when they travel to take on AMCC opponent Franciscan University.
