Women’s Soccer Ties 1-1 With Cairn

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer played to a 1-1 draw with non-conference opponent Cairn University on Saturday afternoon at Spring Run Stadium.

Meghan Flaugh (Roaring Spring, PA/Central) scored her first collegiate goal for Penn State Altoona (1-0-1), while Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) picked up an assist.

Riley Barrett (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) got the start in goal for the Lady Lions and played a scoreless first half, making three saves. Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) played the remainder of the game, making one save and taking the decision.

Flaugh broke a scoreless tie at 30:47, when she headed McConnell's corner kick past the goalkeeper to put Penn State Altoona up 1-0.

Cairn (0-1-1) was able to knot the score 1-1 at 61:59, when a corner kick deflected off of a Penn State Altoona player and into the net.

The score remained tied through the end of regulation and two overtime periods, with the teams settling for the draw.

Penn State Altoona held a 20-6 advantage over Cairn in total shots attempted, including a 12-5 lead in shots on goal. The Lady Lions outshot the Highlanders 7-0 in overtime.

Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) had a game-high seven shots for Penn State Altoona, including three on goal. Haley Giedroc (Howard, PA/Bald Eagle) posted four total shots, with two of them being on target. Autumn Adams (Houtzdale, PA/Moshannon Valley) had three shots attempted, all of which were on net, and Amanda Ayers (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman) had two shots, both on net.

Additionally, Penn State Altoona had an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.

Women's soccer plays its next game against non-conference opponent Westminster College on Wednesday, September 5 at 6:00 p.m. at Spring Run Stadium.
