Women’s Soccer Downed 3-1 by Lycoming

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer was handed a 3-1 loss on Friday evening by non-conference opponent Lycoming College at Spring Run Stadium.

Elle Sarracco had two goals for Lycoming (1-6), while Elin Johansson recorded three assists for the Warriors.

Penn State Altoona (2-2-1) got a six-save performance between the pipes from Riley Barrett (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy). Amanda Ayers (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman) totaled a team-high three shots, including one shot on goal.

The Lady Lions scored first with a little help from Lycoming. Sydney Emershaw's (Dallas, PA/Dallas) ball into the box deflected off the head of a Lycoming defender and past the goalkeeper to give Penn State Altoona a 1-0 lead at 16:43.

But the Warriors tied the score at 22:18. Johansson led Jayden Leighow upfield with a pass, and Leighow scored on a shot from inside the box that found the bottom left corner of the goal.

Lycoming jumped ahead just over two minutes later. Sarracco took a pass from Johansson, dribbled into the box, and floated a shot past the keeper to make it 2-1. Sarracco struck again before halftime, scoring bottom left on a shot at the 40:14 mark to put the visitors ahead 3-1.

That goal capped the scoring, and the tally of 3-1 held up the remainder of the way.

Lycoming held a 15-11 advantage in total shots, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were tied 4-4, with Lycoming posting a 3-1 advantage in the first half and Penn State Altoona getting a 3-1 lead in the second half.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer hosts another non-conference game at Spring Run Stadium next Wednesday, September 19, when the Lady Lions face off against Juniata College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
