Women’s Soccer Edged 1-0 in AMCC Opener at D’Youville

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer started its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon, but the Lady Lions were handed a 1-0 loss by their league opponent D'Youville College at Dobson Field.

Penn State Altoona (3-3-1, 0-1 AMCC) held big advantages in shots (14-5) and shots on goal (12-3), but the Lady Lions were unable to come up with the goals to record a win.

D'Youville (1-7, 1-0 AMCC) scored the game's only goal in the first half, when Magan Magee's header in the box found the back of the net at 17:03 to put the home Lady Spartans up 1-0.

D'Youville made their lead stand up the rest of the way, securing a tight one-goal victory in the teams' AMCC opener.

Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) started in goal for Penn State Altoona, playing the first half and making one save. Riley Barrett (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) played the second half for the Lady Lions, recording one save.

Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) led all players with four shots attempted, including three shots on goal. Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) had three shots, all of which were on target.

Lady Lions soccer returns to Spring Run Stadium for its next game, as the team will host AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday, September 25 at 6:00 p.m.
