Lady Lions Snap Skid With 2-0 Win
ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer ended its three-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon, when it posted a 2-0 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford at Spring Run Stadium.
Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) scored both goals for Penn State Altoona (4-5-1, 1-2 AMCC), increasing her team-leading goal total to six. Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Haley Giedroc (Howard, PA/Bald Eagle) each recorded an assist.
Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) started the first half in goal for Penn State Altoona and made one save to pick up her second win of the season. Riley Barrett (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) played the second half in goal and made one save.
Penn State Altoona made it 1-0 at 18:11, when McConnell took a lead pass from Irwin, dribbled past a defender, and beat the goalkeeper with a shot. McConnell tacked on another goal at 37:50, getting Giedroc's pass and working past the defender to slip a shot past the keeper.
Those two goals were all that the Lady Lions needed, as their defense clamped down on Pitt-Bradford (1-8-1, 0-2-1). Penn State Altoona limited the visitors to just seven shots, including only two shots on goal.
The Lady Lions led 20-7 in shots and 10-2 in shots on goal.
