CRESSON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer had a strong game on Wednesday evening against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Mount Aloysius College, as the Lady Lions played to a 1-1 draw against the Lady Mounties at the Walker Athletic Complex.

Mount Aloysius (9-0-2, 3-0-1 AMCC) entered the game as the first place team in the AMCC standings, but Penn State Altoona (4-5-2, 1-2-1 AMCC) was able to keep their conference foes out of the win column.

Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) scored her second goal of the season for the Lady Lions, while Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) recorded her first collegiate point with an assist on the tally.

Riley Barrett (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) made 11 saves in goal for Penn State Altoona, a season-high for the freshman.

Mount Aloysius struck first, making it 1-0 shortly before halftime. Christine Mpembele's cross found Katie Miller, who scored at 42:00 to put the home team on the board.

But Penn State Altoona came up with the game-tying goal in the latter stages of the second half, when Irwin headed Emershaw's free kick past the keeper to tie the score 1-1 at 77:39. That score held up through the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime.

In the first overtime period, Penn State Altoona held a 3-1 advantage in total shots, and each team put one shot on goal during the period. But with the score still knotted, the teams headed into a second and final overtime.

The Lady Lions were able to fend off several scoring chances by Mount Aloysius in the second overtime period, as the Lady Mounties racked up a 5-0 advantage in total shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks during the 10-minute period. By the end of the second overtime, Penn State Altoona had preserved the tie, denying their AMCC rivals a win while recording a point in the standings themselves.

For the game, Mount Aloysius outshot Penn State Altoona 28-13, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. The home team also had a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Irwin led the Lady Lions in shots with six, including putting one shot on goal. Meghan Flaugh (Roaring Spring, PA/Central) and Haley Giedroc (Howard, PA/Bald Eagle) each finished with one shot on goal, and Sam Jones (Clifford Township, PA/Mountain View) was second on the team with two shot attempts.

Next, Penn State Altoona women's soccer has another road AMCC game, as the Lady Lions will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. this Sunday, October 7 to play Medaille College at 2:00 p.m.
