Women’s Soccer Edged 2-0 in Season Opener

ASTON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer opened its 2019 schedule on the road Saturday afternoon, when the Lady Lions suffered a 2-0 loss at Neumann University.

After a scoreless first half, Neumann (2-0) found the back of the net twice in the second half to prevail, getting goals from Jess Cirone and Lexi Concklin.

Kaitlyn Harmon (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) started in goal for Penn State Altoona (0-1) and played the first half, making seven saves while keeping the home team off of the scoreboard. Diana Miller (Haymarket, VA/Battlefield) played the second half between the pipes.

KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) led Penn State Altoona in shots attempted with three, while Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) and Sam Jones (Clifford Township, PA/Mountain View) took two shots each and Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Lauren Andrews (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) totaled one shot apiece. Andrews, Jones, and Wolfe recorded shots on goal for the Lady Lions.

Neumann's Cirone scored the game's first goal at 59:41, before Concklin added an insurance tally at 80:59.

Neumann posted a 17-9 lead over Penn State Altoona in total shots attempted, though the second half was even at 7-7. The Knights also led 9-3 in shots on goal and 3-0 in corner kicks.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer will look to bounce back tomorrow, Sunday, September 1, when the Lady Lions return to the pitch against Cairn University. Game time in Langhorne, Pa. is set for 3:00 p.m.
