Lady Lions Tie Cairn 1-1

LANGHORNE, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer played to a 1-1 draw against Cairn University on Sunday afternoon in a game that went through two overtimes.

Two Lady Lions recorded their first collegiate points in the game, as Arianna Mancini (Abington, PA/Abington) scored the game-tying tally for her first collegiate goal and KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) picked up the helper for her first collegiate assist.

Kaitlyn Harmon (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) played all 110 minutes between the pipes for Penn State Altoona (0-1-1), registering three saves.

Katie Jordan scored the lone goal for Cairn (0-1-1) in the tie.

The Highlanders scored the game's first goal early in the first half, when Jordan found the back of the net at 10:53 to put the home team up 1-0.

Cairn attempted three more shots on goal throughout the remainder of the first half, but they were each denied by Harmon. Penn State Altoona totaled three shots on goal in the opening period, with all three being saved by the Cairn goalkeeper.

The Lady Lions finally broke through early in the second half. Wolfe set up Mancini, who scored at 46:31 to tie the score 1-1.

Penn State Altoona held a 7-3 advantage in shots attempted during the second half, but the Lady Lions were unable to come up with the go-ahead goal, and the game proceeded to overtime.

In the first overtime period, Penn State Altoona posted a 3-0 advantage in shots and also had two corner kick opportunities. But the Lady Lions were held off of the scoreboard, and the game advanced to a second overtime period.

In double overtime, Cairn recorded one shot attempt and two corner kicks, and Penn State Altoona had one corner kick. However, neither team was able to cash in, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) finished with a game-high six shots attempted, including two shots on goal. Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) had four shots attempted, also putting two shots on goal.

In total, Penn State Altoona held advantages over Cairn in shots (15-9), shots on goal (7-4), and corner kicks (7-2).

Lady Lions soccer continues its season on the road this Wednesday, September 4, when the team travels to play Westminster College at 7:30 p.m.
