Women’s Soccer Grabs 3-1 Win at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer picked up its second win of the fall on Wednesday night, when the Lady Lions secured a 3-1 victory over Juniata College at Gibbel Stadium.

Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) led the way for Penn State Altoona (2-3-1), scoring two goals and adding an assist. With her results on the field, she moved into a tie for 10th place in Penn State Altoona women's soccer program history in points (40), while also moving into a tie for ninth place in goals scored (17).

KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) also scored a goal for the Lady Lions, and Sarah Huston (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) recorded an assist. Kaitlyn Harmon (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) made a season-high nine saves between the pipes to pick up her second career win in goal for Penn State Altoona.

Penn State Altoona got out to a strong start, scoring twice in the first half to eventually lead 2-0 by halftime.

Wolfe scored her second goal of the season at 14:52 on an assist from McConnell, giving the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead. McConnell found the back of the net herself at 31:13 to make it 2-0.

Juniata (1-3-2) cut Penn State Altoona's lead in half in the early stages of the second period, when Emma Moreland's unassisted goal at 47:30 trimmed the Eagles' deficit to 2-1.

But McConnell put the nail in the coffin at 89:24, scoring her second goal of the night to make it 3-1. The goal was McConnell's team-leading fourth of the season, and the assist went to Huston.

Juniata led Penn State Altoona in shots (18-11), shots on goal (10-5), and corner kicks (7-2).

McConnell and Wolfe each paced the Lady Lions in shots, attempting three each with two shots on goal apiece. Alana Masullo (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) attempted two shots.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's soccer opens its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule at home this Saturday, September 21, when the Lady Lions host D'Youville College for a game starting at 4:15 p.m.
