Women’s Soccer Nabs Important 1-0 Win at La Roche

PITTSBURGH – Penn State Altoona women's soccer greatly improved its playoff outlook on Wednesday afternoon, when the Lady Lions picked up a 1-0 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche University at the Baierl Athletic Complex.

With the win, Penn State Altoona (6-8-2, 4-4-1 AMCC) now sits alone in the sixth and final spot for the upcoming AMCC Tournament. A win in the Lady Lions' final regular season game on Saturday should clinch the team's second consecutive berth into the AMCC playoffs.

KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) scored the game's only goal for Penn State Altoona, with Sarah Huston (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) picking up the assist.

Kaitlyn Harmon (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) made four saves in goal for the Lady Lions to record her sixth win of the season. Diana Miller (Haymarket, VA/Battlefield) also manned the goalkeeper position for 30:07 of the first half, playing in relief for a then-injured Harmon. The two keepers combined to seal Penn State Altoona's second straight shutout victory.

The Lady Lions scored the game's lone goal early in the first half, then protected their lead for the remainder of the day. Huston set up Wolfe for her third goal of the season, which gave Penn State Altoona a 1-0 lead at the 11:07 mark.

The Lady Lions led La Roche in shots attempted (9-8) and shots on goal (8-4), while the Lady Redhawks held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Wolfe tied the game-high with three shots on goal, while Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) put two shots on goal.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer closes out its 2019 regular season schedule on the road this Saturday, October 26, when the Lady Lions travel to take on Hilbert College in a game beginning at 3:15 p.m.
