Women’s Soccer Overpowers Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team got out to a big lead on Saturday, en route to a 6-1 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Four different players scored goals for the Lions (7-6, 5-1 AMCC), who worked their way out to a 5-0 advantage less than 40 minutes into the game.

Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) led the way for Penn State Altoona with a season-best performance, recording two goals and also notching two assists. Taylor Fleming (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore) also scored two goals for the Lions, the first two of her collegiate career.

KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) added one goal and one assist for Penn State Altoona, and Anaya Phillips (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) scored her first collegiate goal.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) started at goalkeeper for the Lions and made five saves to pick up her team-leading fifth win of the season between the pipes.

Penn State Altoona scored all five of its first half goals in the span of 15:04, starting midway through the opening period.

Wolfe got things started when she netted her first goal of the season at 23:57, and Smith's goal at 26:24 made it 2-0. Fleming tallied her first collegiate goal at 31:21, with the assist going to Wolfe, to expand Penn State Altoona's advantage to 3-0.

Smith scored her second goal of the day and team-best eighth of the season at the 35:44 mark off of an assist from Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford), and Smith assisted on Fleming's second goal of the game at 39:01 to boost the Lions' lead to 5-0.

Pitt-Bradford (0-13-1, 0-6 AMCC) got on the board before halftime, when Alexis Gibbons' goal at 41:28 made it 5-1.

After the teams combined for six goals in the first half, the second half saw just one score. Phillips notched her first career goal at the 66:32 mark, with Smith picking up her second assist of the day.

Penn State Altoona finished the game with a 20-13 advantage over Pitt-Bradford in shots attempted and a 12-6 lead in shots on goal. The Lions also led 5-2 in corner kicks.

Smith and Fleming led all players in the game with three shots on goal each, while Wolfe and Phillips each put two shots on goal.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer will look to keep its AMCC success going this Wednesday, October 20, when the team travels to face Pitt-Greensburg in a game starting at 1:00 p.m.
