Lions Drop Sunday Matinee to Titans

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team finished its brief two-game homestand on Sunday afternoon, when the Lions suffered a 2-1 loss to non-conference opponent Westminster College at Spring Run Stadium.

Schenley Farrell (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) scored her second goal of the season for Penn State Altoona (0-3-2), with Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) notching the assist for her first point of the year.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) made her fifth start of the season at goalkeeper for the Lions and recorded five saves.

It took Penn State Altoona less than two minutes to draw first blood and establish an early lead. After a long kick was sent into the middle of the field in the Westminster end, McConnell touched a pass ahead to Farrell, who worked past a defender and fired a shot into the top of the goal from 20 yards to make it 1-0 at 1:20.

But Westminster (3-1-1) tied things up just over 13 minutes later. Julia Redilla's well-placed pass up the middle of the field led Brooke Horvath toward the box, and Horvath took the ball, dribbled around the goalkeeper, and sent a shot into the goal at 14:24 to knot the score at 1-1.

The Titans took their first lead of the day just 2:15 into the second half, when Horvath struck again to give the visitors a go-ahead tally. Amanda Lewis sent a long pass into the middle of the field from the sideline, and Horvath took the ball, came into the box, and chipped a shot past the keeper from 12 yards to give Westminster a 2-1 advantage at the 47:15 mark.

Horvath's second goal capped the scoring for the day, and Westminster escaped with the tight road win.

Hannah Brubaker (San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch) recorded two of Penn State Altoona's three shots on goal, while Farrell had the other one. Sarah Huston (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville), KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville), and Hailey Yaletsko (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Academy Charter) also attempted one shot apiece for the Lions.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer hits the road for its next game, when the Lions will head to Latrobe to take on non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College in a 1:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, September 14.
