Women’s Swimming Opens AMCC Championships in Fifth Place

ERIE, Pa. – After the first of the four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center on Wednesday evening, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team held down fifth place out of six teams.

Penn State Behrend was in first place by the end of Wednesday, totaling 40 points. Alfred State College was in second with 38 points, and Cabrini College placed third with 36 points. Pitt-Bradford collected 22 points for fourth place, and Franciscan University was in sixth with 18 points.

Wednesday's opening night action featured the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay finals.

In the 'A' final for the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, the Lady Lions' squad of Emily Beam (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), Courtney Frye (Roaring Spring, PA/Central), Elizabeth Anderson (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land), and Hannah Kimmick (Youngwood, PA/Hempfield) came in fifth place with a combined time of 10:12.95.

With that fifth place finish, Penn State Altoona secured 20 points to grab fifth place overall in the meet.

The AMCC Championships continue for day two tomorrow, Thursday, February 15, with events including the 500 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard I.M., and 50 Yard Freestyle. Preliminaries start the day at 10:00 a.m., and the finals are set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
